Class Policies & Expectations
Classroom Etiquette
Acting class can be a fun, vibrant, scary situation. Because the work is ourselves, up there, on stage, being vulnerable. It's thrilling and bravery is required. For this reason, I have a zero tolerance for a lack of respect in class. In Acting Class it is vital that we have the support of the group. Here's the two big rules:
If we all follow these rules, we can have a safe, surprising, enlightening semester, full of possibilities.
- Everyone plays, every class.
- Everyone has the right to feel free to work, explore, and take risks in an environment that is free from judgement and disapproval.

Attendance
You may miss up to 4 classes with no penalties, per department and college policy. Note however, that your Participation grade will be affected. Also per department policy, each additional absence beyond the 2 allowed weeks (4 classes in our case), your final grade will be lowered by half a letter grade per absence. If you are egregiously late (beyond 15 minutes) or sleeping in class, you will be counted as absent. Please note: I make no distinction between excused or inexcused absences, so use your allotted absences wisely.
Cell Phone Etiquette
This should go without saying, but, I'll say it anyway. Cell phones should be turned off and put away before the start of class -- whether we are in the seats or on the stage. Do not bring them on stage.
If your cell phone rings during class the FIRST time, we will laugh and I will ask you to turn it off. If it rings a SECOND time, I will ask you to leave and this will count as an absence. If you bring your cell phone on stage or have it out while a student is performing, you will be asked to leave and this will count as an absence and a zero participation grade for the week and if you were to perform that day you will receive a zero on your performance.
