Course Description
WHY ARE WE HERE?
Acting is one of the best ways to learn about being alive. A good acting class, which I fully expect this to be, does more than impart knowledge, it humanizes us. Teaches us to stop making instant judgments, and to practice empathy towards our fellow humans and the characters we portray on stage. Acting helps us become citizens of the world. I truly believe that, and have witnessed many students making that discovery. If you are willing and open-minded and fully commit to the course, you can not only learn about the craft of acting, you can end up knowing more about yourself, about others, about how we connect with each other, how to compromise and collaborate.
Acting 1 is an introduction to the craft of acting. The emphasis of this course is on liberating the student’s creative energy and expression.
As an introduction to the basic skills of acting, we will work on the training of the mind, body, and voice in the specific disciplines required to perform on stage.
We will practice vigorously the basic skills of “play"-ing. These skills open the creativity of an individual and allow them to discover potentials beyond their own experience, or even their own expectation.
We will also work on playing well with others; to collaborate as a team; to work for the progress of the other members in the group as well as your own progress; to become a gracious theatre artist.
To develop critical thinking skills which serve the student as a future audience member or participant in theatrical presentations.
